“But this is your hour–when darkness reigns.” Luke 22:53b (NIV)
People say one thing, and then do another. In the hour when darkness reigns.
Bad calls itself good and injustice thrives. In the hour when darkness reigns.
Men resort to violence or flee in cowardice. In the hour when darkness reigns.
Friends betray each other and deny their brothers. In the hour when darkness reigns.
Mobs scream with hatred and leaders wash their hands. In the hour when darkness reigns.
We exchange truth for lies and tell ourselves we’re fine. In the hour when darkness reigns.
And yet…
Three days pass and the sun rises. Because it’s only one hour that darkness reigns.
Even darkness at its darkest cannot fully win. God is the one holding the reins.
He fences it in, he cuts in short; ultimately darkness’ work is in vain.
Jesus rose again, defeating our sin, and victorious over all darkness and pain.
So don’t lose hope or be overwhelmed when your fight against the darkness is strained.
It’s just one dark night ‘til we reign in the light with our Savior who conquered the grave.
