Most of the posts you’ll find here first appeared as podcast episodes. You can listen to each episode on the page or read the slightly edited transcript. You’ll also find questions for personal reflection or discussion.

  • Drinking the Cup

This story is full of people doing the wrong thing. The disciples fail to pray, even though Jesus tells them twice. A mob comes to arrest Jesus even though he has done nothing wrong. Only Jesus does what is right. In fact, we see in this story that Jesus submits to God’s will.

  • After the Last Supper, Jesus has just a few hours left before his crucifixion. How does he spend that time? In prayer. He also repeatedly urges his disciples to pray so that they do not fall into temptation. Jesus demonstrates that prayer is our greatest weapon.

  • Do This to Remember

One of the main commands in the story of the Last Supper is to “do this in remembrance of me.” The command seems simple enough and yet we tend to be distracted and forgetful people. It’s important for us to understand the how and the why of remembering.

  • In the story of the Last Supper, several words and phrases are repeated, revealing important things that we need to pay attention to: Passover, the kingdom of God, and given. Through this, we learn that Jesus is the sacrifice that gives us freedom.

  • In Control

The story of the Last Supper strangely parallels the Triumphal Entry. Both stories have two disciples sent ahead by Jesus to acquire an unlikely resource. And in both situations, the disciples find it exactly as Jesus has said. These parallels help drive home the lesson that Jesus is in control.

  • God Speaks to Us

The Parable of the Wicked Tenants can feel really heavy, with violent tenants and a punishing response. But it also reveals to us the lengths that God goes to in order to communicate to his people. The question is, are we listening?
